Committees

As a statewide membership organization, WCASA was created to support and complement the work of those committed to ending sexual violence. Our staff, Board and agency committees work statewide to address all facets of sexual violence, from public attitudes and awareness, to effective intervention, to public policy.

We need your input! Please join a WCASA committee and help shape the future of our agency’s fight to end sexual assault. To help you decide what committee you might be interested in joining, a brief description of each standing committee and member expectations is described below. We look forward to your committee membership!

Applications are available from the WCASA office; your completed application will be submitted to the committee chair for review and presentation to the Board of Directors. This body is charged with the maintenance of these standing committees. The appropriate Board member will contact you regarding your interest. Thank you in advance for your commitment.

THE FOLLOWING COMMITTEES ARE OPEN TO MEMBERS OF WCASA:

EDUCATION COMMITTEE: The Education committee is a working committee for the education program. Individuals interested in anti-sexual assault education throughout the state are encouraged to join. The committee develops goals on the basis of WCASA’s mission and membership input. Often, the committee will work with other organizations or groups to implement the education workplan. The committee is involved in various projects including planning for WCASA’s Training Institute, topical workshops, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, school or campus events and general public education.

SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE: The Social Action Committee (SAC) is comprised of members who have a commitment to creating, monitoring and activating public policy responses to sexual violence. The SAC reacts to legislation that is introduced by reviewing legislative initiatives to make preliminary decisions whether to support or oppose the legislation. The SAC also acts proactively when a sexual violence issue develops that demands immediate attention. The SAC determines how to confront the issue, either through a legislative response or through the creation of a sub-committee on the issue. In 1997, the SAC was involved in developing a statewide Legal Advocacy Training, manual and video.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE: The Membership committee develops ideas and strategies that may be used to increase WCASA membership and enhance the voice of the membership in WCASA’s workplans. According to the WCASA Bylaws, the Membership committee is chaired by the Vice President of the WCASA Board of Directors.

WCASA also has committee opportunities that are open only to current Board members. The list of committees designated for current Board members are the following:
