        People Against Domestic Abuse - Volunteer Advocates Needed
        (Posted 9-24-12; Open Indefinitely)

        People Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse (PADA) of Jefferson County is looking for volunteers for our sexual assault victim advocate program.  Advocates will be trained to provide crisis intervention and support services to survivors of sexual assault after hours including contacts with police, hosptials, and PADA.

        Requirements:          

          • Must be at least 18 years of age
          • Have reliable transportation and auto insurance, and be able to respond within 60 minutes of initial contact.
          • Submit to a background check
          • Complete a minimum 8 hours of training, plus shadow a SANE call (ongoing training as needed).
          • Attend Monthly Advocate meeting
          • Be available after office hours (5:00 p.m.- 8:00 a.m.) Thursday-Monday and holidays
          • Minimum one year commitment
          • Background in sexual assault victim advocacy, trauma informed car

        Responsibilities:

          • Provide individual support to victims of sexual assault after business hours inlcuding contacts with police and the hospital.
          • Maintain strict confidentiality in all cases that you are involved
          • Complete and return advocate log sheets to coordinator on a timely basis
          • Communicate all information regarding contacts with Executive Director
          • Be empathetic, emotionally supportive, patient to victims of sexual assault who are in crisis.
