DESCRIPTION:Presented by Jorge Vidal\, Latinos United for Peace & Equity (LUPE) \nSexual trauma can influence how we negotiate\, celebrate\, and make decisions around sex. To understand the complexity of decision-making\, practitioners must make space for storytelling. In this conversation\, Jorge will share pieces of his story\, what hinders listening\, and the freedom that he has discovered in truth-telling \nJorge Vidal is a community builder\, healer\, and social justice practitioner/ally born in Peru who has made the US home for 32 years. Over the decades\, as a front-line worker\, Jorge has been a witness to many injustices and lack of celebration for BITQPOC folks. Leading with feminine energy as a Latino man was not always easy\, but magic happened when Jorge found power in his intersections. He has been a strong advocate for cultural organizations and peers across the US as a cultural leader. Jorge has built and led local NY programs as an Assistant Director and transfer the knowledge in 3 states he lived in\, including Puerto Rico\, DC\, and Florida. In all\, he has lived and worked with the Latino community in 5 different states. Within the domestic violence and HIV/AIDS movement\, Jorge has contributed to policy changes within organizations\, race equity consultant\, technical assistance provider\, mentor to cultural leaders\, and speaker in numerous conferences around and outside the United States. Jorge values and fights the undermining of heart-to-heart connection that often is overlooked in our work. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Ruthie Burich-Weatherly\, Public Health Consultant\, Riverside Consulting\, LLC and Joanna Woodbury\, Director of Social Services\, Medical College of Wisconsin \nWhat are your options for reduction in risk of HIV acquisition before or after a potential HIV exposure? This presentation will provide you information about nPEP and PrEP\, highly effective means of preventing an HIV infection before or shortly after a potential exposure through condomless sex\, sexual assault or other means of HIV transmission. \nRuthie Burich-Weatherly began her career in HIV/HCV/STD prevention during undergrad in 2005 at AIDS Resource Center of WI-GB working with people who inject drugs on HIV/HCV risk reduction. She continued to work in HIV prevention while serving in the Peace Corps. After relocating to Milwaukee\, WI she continued working with ARCW in HIV/HCV/STD prevention for MSM/SGLM/PWID. In 2014 she began a career in Disease Investigation and follow-up for the Milwaukee Health Department and since 2016 has been providing consulting services for PrEP\, HIV prevention and STD clinic management while running a social media site advocating and educating on PrEP use\, LetsPrEPWI. Ruthie currently serves as the City of Milwaukee Board of Health-Chair and a consultant to Milwaukee County COVID-19 mitigation efforts. \nJoanna Woodbury is a seasoned Certified Social Worker and has worked in HIV care since 2007. Joanna serves as the Director of Social Services for Froedtert and the Medical of Wisconsin overseeing social work\, mental health\, nurse case management and pharmacy services provided in the Inclusion Health and Infectious Disease Clinics. Joanna was an integral part of starting both Wisconsin’s first and largest PrEP clinic\, and the Inclusion Health Clinic\, Wisconsin’s first LGBTQ health clinic. She is a leader in HIV care and prevention social work and has led the development of a PrEP Navigation program that supports people in connecting to PrEP across Southeastern Wisconsin. Joanna works closely the SANE program and supports sexual assault survivors seen in Froedtert Health System emergency rooms. Joanna holds Professional Certificates in Motivational Interviewing and Servant Leadership and has been recognized as a State of Wisconsin leader in HIV care. On Friday\, January 29th\, we welcome WI Office of Crime Victim Services staff\, who will provide information on the CVC/SAFE\, Crime Victim Rights and Safe at Home programs. DESCRIPTION:Due to ongoing restrictions in response to COVID-19\, WCASA will be offering its Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy School (SAVAS) online. The training will last Monday through Thursday\, January 11-14\, Tuesday through Friday\, January 19-22 and Monday through Friday\, January 25-29. On Friday\, January 29th\, we welcome WI Office of Crime Victim Services staff\, who will provide information on the CVC/SAFE\, Crime Victim Rights and Safe at Home programs. These live sessions will last 2.5 hours each day and will not be recorded. \nSAVAS addresses the basics of being a victim advocate — answering the crisis line\, providing individual and systems advocacy and providing outreach in your community. We are adapting sessions and activities to fit the constraints of web-based learning\, while striving to provide a similar experience to in-person events. SUMMARY:Sexual Violence Prevention Work Webinar Series - Social Justice as our Prevention Framework: Building Civically Engaged Leaders Amongst Our Youth
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Nubia Peña\, Director\, Utah Division of Multicultural Affairs \nSocial justice and sexual violence prevention efforts are often kept in separate spheres\, failing to consider how the foundational principles of one intersects with the other. Prevention educators can use school and community based prevention initiatives to create civically engaged and empowered youth to challenge the manner in which society has created narratives that justify violence\, overlook oppression\, and continue discriminatory practices. \nWhen we infuse our prevention curriculums with tenets of social justice we are actively working across the social ecological model by creating paradigm shifts in our youth in the manner in which they see themselves\, develop interpersonal relationships\, interact with their community\, and take on roles as agents of social change. \nThis session will encourage programming that incorporates a social-justice framework to inspire and develop engaged youth leaders through a culturally relevant educational experience deeply rooted in anti-oppression principles. This is especially important with today’s polarized climate around immigration\, race relations\, civil rights\, and the lack of support for survivor narratives\, which must be addressed in order to create inclusive and intersectional efforts. \nPlease register at the link below.

This will be done by taking a critical look into the intersections of racial justce and sexual violence prevention. Topic areas will include intersectionality\, gender socialization\, adultification\, and allyship. \nTonjie is a Detroit native\, creative\, preventionist\, and founder of eleven24\, a program dedicated to reimagining prevention through a lens of liberation and community. In her many years of youth-serving and gender-based violence work\, she has held roles as a prevention program director\, national community initiatives coordinator\, and senior program officer. Tonjie holds a BS in Behavioral Science and a MA in Education\, Leadership\, and Change. Driven by the belief that everyone has a role in gender based violence prevention\, her motto is “It’s up to us to define what our role will be!”
