We are offering this opportunity to staff of member Sexual Assault Service Providers (SASPs). \nSAVAS addresses the basics of being a victim advocate — answering the crisis line\, providing individual and systems advocacy and providing outreach in your community. Hirsch\, Professor\, Socio-Medical Sciences\, Mailman School of Public Health\, Columbia University and Shamus Khan\, Professor / Chair of Sociology\, Columbia University \nIn this webinar\, we invite Columbia professors Jennifer S. Hirsch and Shamus Khan\, authors of Sexual Citizens: Sex\, Power\, and Assault on Campus\, to discuss the research central to their book and their vision for campus sexual assault prevention. They will address sexual assault as a racial justice issue and the idea that sexual self-determination\, and the obligation of respecting equivalent right in others\, is everyone’s right. \nJennifer S. Hirsch is professor of socio-medical sciences at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. Her research spans five intertwined domains: the anthropology of love; gender\, sexuality and migration; sexual\, reproductive and HIV risk practices; social scientific research on sexual assault and undergraduate well-being\, and the intersections between anthropology and public health. She’s been named one of New York City’s 16 ‘Heroes in the Fight Against Gender-Based Violence.’ In 2012 she was selected as a Guggenheim Fellow. \nShamus Khan is professor & chair of sociology at Columbia University. He is the author of dozens of books and articles on inequality\, American Culture\, gender\, and elites. His work has appeared in the New Yorker\, The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, CNN\, and many other media outlets. In 2018 he was awarded the Hans L. Zetterberg Prize for “the best sociologist under 40.” \nOn this webinar\, Hirsch and Khan will be interviewed by Dr. Kate Walsh\, a licensed clinical psychologist and a tenured Associate Professor in Psychology and Gender & Women’s Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is the lead investigator on UW-Madison’s newly established interdisciplinary Sexual Violence Research Initiative. Her work addresses biopsychosocial and environmental risk factors for sexual violence victimization.

These differences impact approaches to healing and  community resilience. This session explores understanding the impacts of ACEs and historical trauma\, as well as encouraging community resiliency while working with First Nations people and communities in Wisconsin. \nBarb Blackdeer-Mackenzie is a Ho-Chunk Nation tribal member and CARES Director/ Community Healer for HIR Wellness Institute in Milwaukee. She has educational and experiential background in explaining and teaching about White privilege\, intercultural and multicultural education\, historical and inter-generational trauma\, positive healthy coping skills\, and community event planning.
