SUMMARY:Family Support Center SAAM Event: LGBTQ+ Youth Empowerment as Sexual Violence Prevention
DESCRIPTION:LGBTQ+ youth are a vibrant\, essential part of our communities. But when risk factors for sexual violence and risk factors linked to oppressive social environments collide\, it can lead to compounded trauma and health disparities with far-reaching impacts. Join us to learn about the unique ways these risk factors are constructed in the lives of LGBTQ+ youth\, especially those with intersecting marginalized identities. We will then look at ways not only youth-serving professionals\, but entire communities\, can take responsibility to grow protective factors for these young people. It’s Up to Us to change social norms and create environments for LGBTQ+ youth to survive and thrive! SUMMARY:Hope House SAAM Event: Denim Day 2022
DESCRIPTION:Denim Day is April 27th\, 2022! On that day\, millions of people across the world will wear jeans with a purpose\, support survivors\, and educate themselves and others about all forms of sexual violence. Why Denim? The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans\, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans\, thereby implying consent. Denim Day asks you to make a social statement with your fashion by wearing jeans as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. Our clothes are not an excuse or invitation to rape. How to Participate: – Wear denim! – Encourage your employees to wear denim – Share why you’re wearing denim on social media
