SUMMARY:Denim Day
DESCRIPTION:Why Denim Day? \nIn the 1990s\, an 18 year old woman was raped by a 45 year old driving instructor. The perpetrator gets arrested and is prosecuted. He is convicted of rape and sentenced to jail but he appeals the sentence and wins in the Supreme Court. A symbolic gesture – an Italian court overturned a rape conviction due to the judges not believing that the victim had not consented to sexual contact since\, in their opinion\, her jeans were so tight the perpetrator could not have gotten them off without her assistance. Outraged\, the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans to work. \nSounds outrageous\, yet in Italy\, and all over the world\, women and men who are victims of sexual assault continue to be disbelieved and accused of causing the assault due to their behavior… or fashion sense. This has to stop. \nResources: \n\nFor more information about the international Denim Day movement\, visit http://denimdayinfo.org/.\nAlso see Denim Day Milwaukee\, a community-wide effort in Milwaukee to raise awareness of sexual assault through the Denim Day movement.\nVisit our Facebook page to learn more events across the state. We hope you can join one of them.\n\nIf you are planning an event in your community\, you are welcome to build from these resources: \n\nDownload Fillable Denim Day Flyer\nGet your Denim Day Toolkit!\nDenim Day logo

Exploraremos acciones flexibles y proactivas\, herramientas de seguridad que son fundamentales para aligerar la carga e impacto causado por las nuevas políticas anti inmigrantes. \nIn recent years\, the Latino community has experienced a growing level of stress as a result of the uncertain future produced by anti-immigrant policies and messages throughout the nation. SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)
DESCRIPTION:“In the United States\, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it. We know that one month isn’t enough to solve the serious and widespread issue of sexual violence. However\, the attention April generates is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts throughout the year.”(https://www.nsvrc.org/saam) \nFor more information\, see https://www.nsvrc.org/saam

SUMMARY:ARCHIVED WEBINAR: Send Nudes Approaching Sexting from a Health Promotion Standpoint
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Kristen Pritchard\, MSW\, Sexual and Reproductive Health Promotion Manager and Kristin Vamenta\, Data and Evaluation Project Coordinator of the Virginia Sexual & Domestic Violence Action Alliance \nAs the presence of technology increases in our personal and professional lives\, preventionists benefit from learning to analyze both the risks and benefits of its use. When it comes to sexting\, the focus is often on youth and the message is “just don’t do it.” In this webinar\, participants will explore commonly proposed “prevention” messaging about sexting; identify alternative messaging strategies\, rooted in a health promotion framework; and explore the dynamics of youth technology use in the context of larger systems of oppression. \nView archived webinar

SUMMARY:Webinar: Confidential Sexual Assault Services on Campus: Centering Marginalized Populations
DESCRIPTION:View Recorded Webinar \nSexism\, racism\, ableism\, and homophobia make people of color\, those with disabilities\, and trans individuals particularly susceptible to sexual violence. Experiences with institutionalized racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, and ableism may make it difficult for college students\, faculty\, or staff members from these marginalized populations to trust the campus support services designed to help them. \nIn order to adapt our system to the needs of these communities\, UW-La Crosse has designated staff from areas of campus that serve these populations as Confidential Resources for sexual violence. Due to barriers presented by athlete culture\, a Confidential Resource for student athletes is included. UWL Confidential Resources provide confidential support\, information and referrals to services to members of our campus community who seek assistance. The Confidential Resource Program resulted in a 10% increase in referrals from underserved populations in its first year of operation. \nPresented by:\n• A.J. Clauss\, Campus Climate Program Coordinator\n• Andrew Ives\, Student Services Specialist\n• Antoiwana Williams\, Director\, Office of Multicultural Student Services\n• Joel Luedtke\, Assistant Director\, Athletic Training\n• Will Vanroosenbeek\, Director of LGBTQA Services
