HIV/nPEP Education Webinar Series for Advocates 2021 / Part 3: HIV and nPEP: an Advocate’s Role

April 6, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Presented by Amanda Schumacher, Sexual Assault Program Director, Family Support Center
This webinar will introduce strategies for advocates helping people who have experienced sexual assault navigate healthcare options and decisions related to HIV. From gaining confidence in discussing the purpose of nPEP and assisting with access and adherence needs, to better understanding the intersecting trauma dynamics for survivors living with HIV, we will focus on using plain language and empowering communication to reduce the stigma, discomfort, and fear that can keep survivors from receiving support around HIV.
Amanda Schumacher joined the staff of Family Support Center (Eau Claire/ Chippewa) in 2012, and has served as Sexual Assault Program Director since 2019. Informed by foundational and enduring work with LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS movements, Amanda has been engaged with anti-violence advocacy for more than 20 years. Amanda is a graduate of UW-River Falls and Hamline University, and is a current ambassador to the Wisconsin HIV Outreach Project’s Statewide Action Planning Group.
