Did you know there is a difference between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and historical trauma? These differences impact approaches to healing and community resilience. This session explores understanding the impacts of ACEs and historical trauma, as well as encouraging community resiliency while working with First Nations people and communities in Wisconsin.

Barb Blackdeer-Mackenzie is a Ho-Chunk Nation tribal member and CARES Director/ Community Healer for HIR Wellness Institute in Milwaukee. She has educational and experiential background in explaining and teaching about White privilege, intercultural and multicultural education, historical and inter-generational trauma, positive healthy coping skills, and community event planning.
